TechTalk with Confidence Tawo: The New Facebook Feature & My Money

Confidence TawoDo you remember how last year, by-fire-by-force, Facebook made us download and install their Messenger app for chatting? Apparently, the social networking giant had plans, but I never expected that a mobile payment integration was underway, until few days ago when Facebook announced its new feature.
When implemented, Facebook users will be able to send money to their friends through the Messenger app without any processing fee “for now”. Uncle Mark says he will only consider generating revenue from this feature when the user base for Messenger reaches 1 billion.
Facebook messenger as my virtual wallet?
Geek talk: If you want to send and receive money via Facebook, it will be as simple as adding your debit card information to your Messenger’s settings section and creating a personal ID number. So to send a payment, you’d simply start up a conversation with your friend, select the applicable currency sign (e.g $) which will appear in the row above the keyboard, and tap “Pay.”
Translation: Open Facebook Messenger, go to settings, put all your debit card details. Start chatting with your friend and being ‘Father Christmas’. Khalas! Finito! E don finish!
When shall these things be?
If you are a BlackBerry faithful like me, this is one of those times to carry a long face because this feature will be available first to iOS and Andriod users, until God ministers to Uncle Mark Zuckerberg to add us to the book of life.
Facebook users in the USA will be the first to enjoy this feature and hopefully we Nigerians will join soon. Amen!
Facebook, what is your mission?
Wait! What is Facebook trying to become? My bank? Are they not content with making me share pictures and details about my life? Now they want me to be ‘she-aring’ money?”
Yes, I asked and here is the answer: Facebook is trying to get you to spend more time interacting on the social network and introducing e-commerce features is a core tactic. So, my fellow nerds at Facebook believe creating a payment option is a very attractive and unique value proposition. Are they right?
Yay or nay?
Facebook is not the first or only tech company going out of its way to provide mobile payment and e-commerce features to users. Tech giants like Apple, Google, Paypal, Twitter and eBay (with Venmo) are interested in a share of this pie as well. Why? Because the mobile payment market is the new tech gold mine for obvious reasons. Most of us now access the internet more from mobile devices than from regular computers.
With a user base of over 1.39 billion monthly active users and considering the struggles of its competitors in the e-commerce/mobile payments market, Facebook has the best chance to succeed. Facebook Messenger already has 500 million monthly users, surpassing all its other competitors in the Peer-to-Peer payment market. Oshey!
How secure is Facebook?
Understandably, there are concerns about this new implementation but topping the list is that of SECURITY! Yes ke! Money is involved na. You see, over the years, no payment platform has been able to deliver on absolute security; each has had their own share of security breaches. Recently, just a few days to the launch of Apple Pay, iCloud was hacked and lots of private eye-candy images of celebs were leaked and published on various websites. Hence, security is a generic problem and identity thieves somehow always find a way to steal the financial information of users.
On the brighter side, Facebook is not totally a newbie on the e-commerce scene. The tech giant already processes over a million secure transactions daily, including payments from game players and advertisers. In fact, Facebook plans to use security features it has been building for payments services on its website since 2007.
If you must use this new feature, special emphasis on MUST, ensure that you have taken the highest level of security measures to protect yourself.
This can include and is not limited to:
Having a strong password. (If you missed my article on passwords, please click here to read )
Installing a good anti-phishing /virus software
Doing the common sense thing of not attaching your main debit card to your Facebook account!
Confidence has spoken: Let he who has ears harken unto my sayings!
If this feature is rolled out for users resident in the same country as yourself, would you be willing to add your debit card and explore the payment service? Drop a comment and let me know your views.

Denola Grey: From How to Take A Selfie to Unusual Menswear Items! Here are 5 Tips to Help the Guys Out

I must admit, men in Nigeria have really stepped up their game!
Riding the high of the AMVCAs, where a lot of our celebs definitely brought their A-game, I decided it is important for the average Nigerian man to not only learn how to take a great selfie, but also learn how to incorporate some unusual menswear items like the cravat and sneakers into their outfits.
So check it out and get inspired!
1. A great tailored suit never goes out of style
Denola Grey Menswear Tips - BellaNaija - March 2015003
The amazing thing about Nigeria is that most of our menswear designers offer bespoke tailoring. We now officially have no excuse to leave the house will ill-fitting, frumpy suits. Yay!
It’s a worthy investment guys – drop a few coins on at least one suit, and build your collection from there. While you’re at it, watch the movie ‘Kingsmen’ you will love suits after that.
2. When wearing sneakers, do it right
Denola Grey Menswear Tips - BellaNaija - March 2015
I must admit I’ve never been a fan of the casual look, especially with sneakers. My resolve has always been to find preppy looking shoes, buy them in my exact size or half a size smaller.
However, my tune recently changed. I have finally seen the light – sneakers are so comfortable! I fully understand why, as men, we want to wear them all the time. Of course, with me, I have some boundaries.
If you are going to indulge in sneakers, at least ensure that they are a dressy pair. Stray from the conventional ‘canvas’, and opt for something with a nicer fabric. Suede sneakers with leather laces are good, or you can even get leather sneakers.
3. Get some cravat-titude
Denola Grey Menswear Tips - BellaNaija - March 2015004
It’s not for everybody, but I can confirm that a cravat (which is like a scarf) is definitely less constricting and more unexpected than a tie or bowtie.
I’m making my own cravat rules and adding it to my casual outfits as a ‘wildcard’ accessory.
4. The distressed shoe is finally done
Denola Grey Menswear Tips - BellaNaija - March 2015002
Once upon a time, it was cool to wear shoes that had visible wear and tear on them, but thankfully that trend is coming to an end. Footwear is for men as makeup and a statement purse is for women.
I heard from a group of girl that they can usually tell a lot about a man based on his choice of footwear, so you definitely want something with structure and a subtle elegance. You want footwear that shows you are not ‘trying too hard’, but that you also take pride in your appearance in the most ‘chill’ way possible.
5. Learn how to take a selfie
I know you’re probably thinking “what’s my business with selfies?” Guys, lets be honest, in this current dating pool and social media age, your Instagram, Facebook etc is your best marketing tool.
The staple selfie for the average guy is usually that direct upward view up your face, but there are other ways to achieve a great selfie.
Denola Grey Menswear Tips - BellaNaija - March 2015005
Look for a natural face light, press that button and watch your stock increase tenfold.
Denola Grey Menswear Tips - BellaNaija - March 2015006

Be sure to let me know what menswear tip you hold dear so we can learn together. Till next time y’all. Keep up the good work!

Photos: Women & elderly rescued in Gwoza as military continues search in recaptured town

Press statement from military below..
A number of women, the elderly and children who were locked up by fleeing terrorists in Gwoza have been freed by troops as cordon and search along with mopping up operations continue in the town. The freed hostages some of whom are so weak are being given medical attention while others are also receiving necessary care pending the arrival and activities of aid agencies. Some of them are also providing useful information for the intelligence in aid of troops operations in the area.
In another development, a building which have been converted to a bomb making factory have been unearthed by troops in the course of ongoing mopping up operations in Gwoza. The facility which is being used for the manufacture of various calibres of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) is still being carefully evacuated of dangerous materials.

Massive destruction of infrastructure and property including blowing up bridges and burnt houses including Emir’s Palace have also been noticeable. Troops are also carefully removing land mines placed in various parts of the town.

In Bama also in Borno State, troops on routine patrol in the suburbs of the town this morning recovered a large number of rifles and various arms believed to have been abandoned by terrorists who fled the area when troops were advancing to flush them of the town recently. Bama was liberated by troops on 16 March 2015 and troops have since been dominating the town with aggressive patrols to defend it against any further terrorists activities.

MARCH 19,2015 CONTINUED

BOKO HARAM WILL SOON BE HISTORY

MARCH 19,2015

A concerted push by Nigeria's military and neighbours Chad, Cameroon and Niger has regained considerable ground in the fight against Boko Haram. The Nigerian army said it has repelled Boko Haram from all but three local government districts in the north-east.

"We have three local governments remaining, Abadam, Kala-Balge and Gwoza, and we are optimistic that with time we will liberate those," Lieutenant-General Tobiah Minimah, the army chief of staff, told reporters.

Waving captured black and white militant flags, soldiers from Niger and Chad celebrated their liberation of the Nigerian town of Damasak from Boko Haram.
The insurgents had seized Damasak with little resistance in November 2014

Boko Haram has been fighting a six-year insurgency to create an Islamic state and had taken control of large parts of Nigeria's north-east in the past year. It became notorious internationally after kidnapping more than 200 schoolgirls last April.

At the start of this year, Boko Haram controlled around 20 local government areas, a territory the size of Belgium. In recent months, Nigeria has stepped up its campaign against the militants, and, with the help of a regional force that includes Niger and Chad, has retaken dozens of towns.

Tens of thousands of refugees fleeing Boko Haram have crossed into neighbouring Niger. Among the world's poorest countries, Niger has suffered from recurrent poor harvests, and says it will struggle to feed its people as well as the refugees.

A young lady who was declared missing over a decade ago in Ghana has turned up at Pastor T.B. Joshua’s church in Nigeria with a harrowing tale to tell.

“I was an international prostitute,” the young lady who gave her name as Precious tearfully told the congregation at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) on Sunday, March 15, 2015.

According to Precious, her problems emanated from an unusual encounter she had with a man coming home from school aged 15. “He asked me to give him an apple I had eaten,” she explained.

“When he was going, he smiled at me in a weird way. That night, I saw the same man in my dream sleeping with me. I woke up in a pool of blood.”

The once bright and prodigious student began mingling with bad friends at school and was forcibly introduced one night to an intoxicating mix of alcohol and marijuana, causing her to pass out.

“When I woke up, I saw myself Unclad on the bed and realised someone had slept with me,” she confessed.

Convinced to run away from home, Precious’ new group of friends introduced her to a lady leading an international prostitution ring.

Equipped with skimpy clothes and housed in a luxurious apartment, the young girl entered fully into the dirty world of prostitution, sleeping with multiple men every night.

Unbeknown to her, a manhunt had ensued for Precious, her disappearance from home even being announced on national television and radio.

Apart from dressing seductively, the young lady was informed diabolical routes must be taken to ensure success in her fledgling ‘career’.

Taken to a notorious witchdoctor, a special cream mixed with the follicles of her vaginal hair was prepared for the purpose of seduction.

Precious’ new lifestyle was accompanied by an intense addiction to alcohol and smoking to the extent that it practically replaced food.

“I didn’t just drink beer,” she explained. “I would take whisky or hard liquor instead of eating food. As much as I was smoking and drinking is as much as I would get clients.”

Branching out on her own after staying with her ‘love-vendor’ for just two months, Precious rented an apartment to continue her immoral activities.

“I was going out with only big men, oftentimes ministers,”she admitted. “I didn’t just go out with any men at all. Our pictures were in all the big hotels. I would initiate them into our society.”

Asked how she was able to ‘initiate’ men of such status, Precious explained that the witchdoctor or ‘baba’ had given her a dark substance to drop in their drinks.

Seeking even more seductive powers, the young lady returned to the same spiritualist. “I found myself Unclad after drinking from the shrine there,” she vividly described.“I saw this man putting his mouth on my private parts and blood was coming out.”

Another cream was prepared, this time with her own blood, ground with the particles of a mirror and water from the shrine. In addition, a ring and chain with spiritual implications were presented to her.

“I would place it on my neck and wear a sexy, dark dress,”she said, explaining the function of the chain. “It would be in the middle of my bosoms. Immediately you set your eyes on me lustfully, you would follow me and get confused.”

Living large, Precious soon had 16 ‘bodyguards’ following her, drove the latest vehicles and donned the latest fashion. Her next target was pastors.

“The witchdoctor said I should sit in the front seat of the church, wearing a sexy dress,” she narrated. “Once the pastor sets his eyes on me, within fifteen minutes, he would call me out, pretend to give me a Bible quotation but actually give me his phone number… Whether he’s married or not, he must sleep with me that same day.”

The lives of all the men she encountered sexually were automatically destroyed. “That’s how I brought down a very great pastor in my country,” she added, acknowledging though that she was only able to entrap clerics who were not genuine in their Christianity.

Additionally, Precious explained that promiscuous pictures of hers were available all over the internet, also pushing men to sin. “I placed my pictures on Facebook. Whoever you are, as you are looking at my picture, you will begin to self-service yourself,” she stated.

Despite obtaining large amounts of money, Precious acknowledged that she ‘didn’t achieve anything’ with her resources and her beauty was steadily fading away although she was just in her late 20s.

One day, a man dressed in white apparel met her on the street and requested for money. Reluctantly obliging, the man said God would bless her for her generosity and advised her to visit Prophet T.B. Joshua’s popular church in Lagos, Nigeria.

“I saw the man in my dream that night repeating the instruction. That is what convinced me to come to The SCOAN for deliverance.”
On the prayer line, Precious held up a bottle of whiskey and cried out that her life was a mess, adding that she was ready to forsake her old life of prostitution and substance abuse. “It’s the devil,” T.B. Joshua angrily declared before praying for her. Violently reacting to the prayer, she was delivered from the spirit tormenting her.

''I now vomit at even the scent of smoke,” Precious testified, a week after her deliverance, stating that all urges to take alcohol, smoke and sleep with men had completely gone.

She tearfully advised young people not to be deceived by the lure of worldly treasures and pleasures, adding that she is actually happy for the first time in her life following her exorcism.

IK Ogbonna On His Engagement And Pregnant Bride– ‘why I’m Marrying Sonia Morales by Ishilove2:52pm

NOLLYWOOD actor and model, Ikechukwu Michel Ogbonna, popularly known as IK Ogbonna, is expecting his second baby from his Colombian girlfriend, Sonia Morales (His daughter is from another relationship).

However, Sonia Morales is a 24 year-old Masters degree student at the University of Belgrade. She also works as a translator and speaks five languages fluently. The couple reportedly met on Instagram and their love has been waxing stronger.

IK on Monday, March 2, 2015, proposed to Sonia as he immediately posted the picture of the ring on Instagram.

In a brief interview with the expectant baby daddy on Saturday, March 7, 2015, IK Ogbonna expressed joy as he prepares for marriage and fatherhood.

We learnt you have found love, is it true?

Yes, and I do not hesitate to take her with me anywhere I go.

How does it feel?

God created everything out of love. So, it is a wonderful feeling when you finally find the one that you truly love.

How do you feel knowing that you will soon be a dad?

It is wonderful and a gift from God. So, I can’t wait to give him or her my love and fatherliness.

How soon should we expect the wedding bells?

It would ring soon. Besides, it is going to be a very loud bell.

What do you find fascinating about her?

We are too much alike.

How do you feel having her in your life?

If someone is part of your destiny, nothing and no one would be capable of changing that.

We learnt you were advised not to show off your girlfriend, why?

A lot of people tell me that since I happen to be a fine boy and Nollywood’s bad boy, I should not let people know that I have a girlfriend because of the ladies. I believe that is total nonsense. As far as I am concerned, why should I live a fake life because I am in the public eye? If someone is my fan, he or she should respect me for who I am. I cannot be dating someone and deny the lady of her right to happiness because women like it when their man celebrate them. I am not flaunting my woman, instead I am living my life the way I should.

Knowing your status, do women still flock around you?

Even married men still have girls chasing them. As far as you have some money in your pocket, women will chase you. Times have changed now and people don’t care about your marital status anymore. They go for what they want at every cost. What really matters is if I am willing to fall for the advances or stay focused. I am a principled young man even though I may flirt sometimes. I know where I am going because I know where I am coming from. I am very honest with who I am dating now ad she is also honest with me.

What do you think makes a man?

What makes you a man is the ability to leave the single sweet life and become one with another person. If the mindset of some people is too low to accept certain things, it will not stop me from living my life.

Single ladies vs Married ladies - from the view of a man (must read)

A man's perspective in the single women vs married women saga. This one is quite interesting!
Hello everyone, I am a male, a ceo, an executive director and a contracted staff for two different companies, in as much as my busy schedules get the best parts of my time, I still create time to address the important things in my life hence, I’m also a huge fan of the important and useful news of this blog.
I’m in my early 30’s, a silent millionaire, unmarried and I would like to give my own version of my 2-cents in this “single, married, independent, dependent, somewhere in-between, not-sure-of-where-I-stand-yet” bruh-ha-ha of the female species and how you generalize the male folk in a very serious series of assumptions but yet, comical lifestyle.
I read the letters of both the single and married women to detail and I can tell you for a fact that you women (whether single or married) are the ignition to our drive, you either help us build the dream or destroy it and by dream, I mean the game plan of how, where and what we do with each other for now or the future. We didn’t wake up to start misbehaving, it is your inability to supply the help we need [hence the Biblical passage of you being referred to as “our helper”] that sets things messy on the long run.

You see, we are insatiable to the bone, we live for three things: MONEY, POWER, SEX – finish. If we as men cheat on you, that’s ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT, and for so many reasons – For the married women: When we first spotted you, you were fresh, yummy, intelligent (not all of you sha) and possessed a killer model-body frame [yes we fall for what we feed our eyes on]. We did all to get you, we married you and we fed our fantasies until……….when you stopped, you gave birth and it didn’t occur to you that staying in shape was one of the things that turned us on in you, why then look like an egg-roll all of a sudden after a couple of kids? Now you can’t lift a leg anymore and you complain that we complain, listen up sweethearts, do you notice that the other lady(ies) we cheat on you with are mainly younger and IN SHAPE? When it comes to our sex, don’t cut us short, we want you to play out all our fantasies, be our lover, our prostitute, our naughty nurse, our run-to-girl, our stripper…..yes, you can be all that bundled into one person. I tell you ladies that when your man is fed with these alter egos of you, he will dare NOT cheat cos not all women are like you and the thought of you giving it good to another nigger cos you guys split will haunt him all his life, no man wants to leave a bad b*tch / good woman.

This is just one of the many reasons why we cheat, others include……when you…..

·         Double date /  Get gifts from your ‘uncles’ / Sleep around for the fun of it / Lie consistently / All you do is ask for money / Cos we can’t buy you Gucci / Wink at another dude / You're talentless / You're an olodo / Can’t cook / Bad breath / hygiene / Bad English / Bleach / Argue uselessly……….etc

Now, I earlier said we live for three things, now here are three things we want in one woman:
 1.      A woman who’s street smart, a lady who knows business and can hold her man’s business in his absence (quick tip) – Save the cash your man gives you from time to time, snuggle up to him one cozy night, show him the cash and say these words: “Honey, here’s the thing, I want to start a biz that can be an asset in our future, I know quite a bit but I want you to school me, *present the cash* here’s quite an amount I saved from the cash you’ve been giving me”. Sweetheart, you just swept yo man off his feet and turned him on, the sex that night will be legendary. I assure you he will go out of his way to make you his only woman.

2.      A woman who can cook. My lawd, if all you know how to cook is indomie, just die. It is true that the way to our hearts is via our tummies.

3.      Finally, you’ve got to go all out on the love making, I explained this earlier. You’ve got to be a freak in the sheets, why else do you think we cheat on you? We want to be fed, it is very possible for us to stick to yo’ confused angry asses, if we close from work by 5pm, we’ll defy gravity to close by 1pm. If you don’t know how to be a bad b*tch to us, follow kim kardashian and see why kanye wants to die there.
N/B: We love freaky ish and we listen to good girls who talk dirty, that’s why we cheat , cos these thots give us what you refused to give us.

As for the independent woman who said we owe you loyalty cos we married you, excuse you? Sorry boo, we paid your bride price, you owe us loyalty with some change by the side, if we cheat, we ain’t doing it with goats, we doing this with your species, you on the other hand are the ones that my species hunt, we are not to blame, you are to blame cos you ain't loyal to yo man, you want free KFC but won't work for your own cash, you were lazy at some point, do you talk to us about it? Do you indulge us as a couple?

An independent woman doesn’t need a man to give her things in order to be comfortable, HE PROVIDES, RELIEVES HER OF STRESS AND HIS PRESENCE IS A BONUS to her life. We as men deserve your best when we provide for you (it’s not the same as dash) and if you are in it cos of what you can get from us, then STFU when karma taps your behind.

Lastly, this is a shout out to the real hardworking ladies that are out there keeping the rep strong, the real women who can hold real men down, those who can turn a house into a home, those who will stand by their men no matter what, those who know the value of their worth, those who can turn down expensive gifts without batting an eyelid, you are the real women that make real men blush.

Enjoy your day folks.

TechTalk with Confidence Tawo: Common Password Pitfalls to Avoid

Confidence TawoKeeping your online profiles safe has become increasingly important, as hacking, online fraud, identity theft and information leaks are commonplace.
As long as you own a computing device and use the Internet, you are open to the risk of a security attack. The only way to be completely safe would be to discontinue the use of modern technology. However, you would pay a heavy price – no email, no online shopping and no ATM, just long queues for every transaction.
There is no such thing as being too careful with your password. Think about the risks involved if your password was stolen or deciphered. Therefore, every effort put towards making and keeping a super-secure password is totally worth it. Let’s discuss the all too common password security mistakes, most of us make.
Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Moe…
Imagine if you went to bed every night with your door closed but not locked or, instead, your door is locked but can be opened with keys for similar locks. Like seriously? That is disaster waiting to happen! When you use weak or generic passwords, you have, in essence, left your door unlocked!
A password is weak when it can be easily guessed. Sistren and brethren, thou shalt not use thy date of birth, nick name, wedding anniversary, hobbies, dog’s name, grandfather’s name, child’s name or even a combination of these as your password. Mbanu!
If possible, your passwords should contain a combination of numbers, symbols, uppercase letters, lowercase letters and spaces. Your password should be free of repetition, dictionary words, usernames, pronouns, IDs, and any other predefined number or letter sequences.
‘Til death do us part…
Having one password forever, is a very bad habit and this is why. Security breaches happen every day and some of these are out of your control. For example, some months ago, LinkedIn was hacked and passwords were compromised. You certainly didn’t have a hand in that security breach but you have to take action and stay a step ahead of hackers, by changing your passwords periodically.
One password, everywhere I go
I appreciate that not everyone is a techie like me and so, as much as I want to rant about this one, I will hold back. But, haba, one password everywhere you go? Are you MTN?
If you have the same password for all or a group of your online profiles, imagine what happens when a hacker breaks into one. Let’s pretend you are Yemi Alade whose Instagram account was hacked recently; what would happen if you were using the same password for your bank account, Facebook, personal and work email? I don’t need to say more to buttress my point, or do I?
Yimu, who knows me sef?
The Internet is a web of networks; please remember that whenever you are about to act carefree with your password. Sadly, when your account is hacked, you expose everyone and everything in the sphere of your connection to the same mishap, including your friends, colleagues, associates, family and employer.
Clicking phoney links in emails
Aha, this one! We now know your password could be cracked or stolen, so let’s talk about phoney emails too because they lead to the theft of login details of undiscerning users.
You may be familiar with those scam emails that ask you to verify your account with a certain bank, when you don’t even have an account there. Fraudsters create a very convincing email and request that you click on a link that leads to a page where they collect your bank details and login information. How to tell the difference between real and false emails, is a topic for another day, but please do not respond to emails of this nature and do not open unsolicited email attachments.
Stop… don’t save!
Never save your password on a computer other than your PC, tablet or smartphone. Let’s not even fuss about this one too much; if you are guilty, repent and all will be forgiven.
Cheer up, it’s not all doom and gloom. There are tools and softwares that can help with password management. You can call them password vaults, if you like – the best ones include LastPass, Dashlane and 1Password – and they all work in a similar way. They consist of a desktop program (or mobile app), which you can use to manage your passwords. Then, there’s a browser extension that automatically logs you into accounts as you browse different websites. All you need to do is have a strong master password.
Are there any more tips you know of that were not shared here? Do you know of better ways to stay safe online? If so, please share.
